The Date Farmers Impress

The Date Farmers show is titled, 'Strange Fruit' and is up at Upper Playground's FIFTY24SF Gallery for the month of September.  I went to the opening last friday and took these photos:

Their work is impressive.  I've known of them for a few years now, and  I continue to be moved when I see their work in person.  I wish the same were true for other artists that I've been following for years.  My tastes change, evolve, but The Date Farmers still have that special something that I love in art.  It's hard to put it into words, but there's honesty and soul in their work.  There's lots of details for me to get lost in.  Notes, words, attached imagery, and the history of found objects.

Do yourself a favor, and go see the show in person.  If you can't make it to the show, you can always click the images to see them bigger.

NECKFACE HYPE

i'm not afraid to say it, i like neckface.

but i can't remember any other show that has as much hype building it up as the halloween night opening of nasty neckface's show at the O.H.W.O.W. gallery. i've been seeing hype about it for at least the past month, and it's still 2 months away. this morning i read this on the lodown magazine blog. after i picked myself up off the floor from laughing so much, i searched out the source of the text. it's on the O.H.W.O.W. website. a big gold star to whoever wrote it!! wow. or rather...oh wow! that's some grade "A" hype. i have to admit, i'm really looking forward to seeing images of the show. even if it's half as good as they say it's going to be, i'll be happy.

good hype = good press.

Paul Wackers at the Luggage Store Gallery

Paul Wackers has completed his year at the Headlands Center for the Arts. He's about to have his Tournesol show at the Luggage Store Gallery here in San Francisco, and I'm excited. I've seen a few of the paintings in promotional material, and they look amazing. This is the show I've been waiting for. If you're anywhere near San Francisco, and you like Paul's paintings, I hope you'll be attending the opening. I know I'll be there.

Mr. Matthew Palladino sees ghosts

You may not be able to see them in this photo, but they're there.  Ghosts, 9 of them.  Try tilting your screen.  These are just some of the ghosts that Matthew Palladino has painted for his show at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco.

Maybe you'll see them in this black painted image.  This time Matthew has put safety vests on some of the larger ghosts.  He feels that if ghosts were to wear safety vests, they wouldn't be so scary.  He may be onto something.

To see more images of the work in the show, and to get more information, go to the  White Walls Gallery website.
The show will be on view Feb. 7 - 31, 2009
